- 1. Choose the correct software
Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw (Which are Vector Drawing Software )
Vector: Use vector paths instead of pixels if possible. This is very important so that you can
scale them up at a later date without losing quality.
Note: For the Internet use a smaller resolution 72 dpi is enough around 200 x 100 no
larger that 275 x 125
For Printed Media you will need at least 300 dpi if not 600 to 1200 dpi
Keep your original at 1200 in Black and White and a colored copy for the internet at 72 dpi
2. Research your products or services before choosing your company name. Unless you are using your family name. Such As: WHITE'S AUTO SALES
3. Choose your colors: Start out with Black and White (Save a Black and White Copy at 1200 DPI) Don't use that copy you will need it for your printers.
Keep in mind that you will most likely use your logo for different projects.
The Web; For your Business Cards, On your Invoices, Possibly have it digitized to use on your hats and uniforms.
Create different color schemes of your logo so it will match different backgrounds. Also Create one with a transparent background.
4. Try and not use more than two colors in your logo. (For your Printed Media)
Remember that when you have it printed the cost for printing is determined by how many
colors you use. One Color - Two Color - and Four Color
For use on the Internet you can use more colors if you like. (Because your Logo will be converted into a .gif or .Jpeg)
5. Decide what type of Logo you want. Try and convey your message But keep in mind that all famous logos are striking but are easy for their audience will remember .
a. Plain Text
b. Lines-Circles and Shapes with Text
c. Text with Clip Art
6. Choose a Font that will go well with what you are trying to convey to your audience but will still do well in a web browser.
7. Don't forget to add your Tag Line to your logo.
